With The Great Gatsby topping the box office right now, it's small wonder guys are looking to recreate the looks from the film, especially the sleek hairstyles sported by its male stars Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio); Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire); and Tom Buchanan (Joel Edgerton).
"The look is so hot right now after a resurgence of men’s grooming with classic and continental barbering being so in fashion. It’s interesting to see that men are returning to barber shops to have face shaves and a classic fade-style cut." says grooming guru and American Crew All-Star Phoenix Thompson. “Men are way more confident now in regards to styling their hair, and not just The Great Gatsby, but shows such as Boardwalk Empire and Mad Men have started a trend for slick and shiny finishes, which has men rocking the Don Draper side-part."
And it's not just the guys who are taking note. “Men are enjoying looking smarter and the comments and looks they get from women when they do," adds Thompson. "Seeing a guy comb in a side part and put on a well-cut a suit for work is incredibly attractive, and I think women are enjoying the effort that men are putting into their appearance at the moment. There’s nothing more head turning than a guy with style and confidence!"
But it's not just Leo and Joel who can make it work. As luck would have it, Thompson agreed to show us how we can all achieve the hairstyles of the film's male leads; Jay Gatsby, Nick Carraway, and Tom Buchanan.
“It’s surprisingly simple to get this look," she says, "but just make sure you use a strong hold gel when the hair is damp and finish with a pomade or grooming cream. This will ensure the hair is looking at its best all day long." Sounds good to us.
